I literally had no idea this place existed–it’s an all-inclusive, outdoors and marine animal-focused, family-friendly, clean resort, that is–and this is key–NOT OVER CROWDED.
The cabana is an upgrade option, and you have several levels to choose from, but from our experience, it was totally worth it. Ours was located on the Dolphin Cove and it had a stocked fridge, a hammock, lounge chairs, plenty of space, and privacy. It gave us the ability to relax a bit in between all of our fun activities, too.
Oh, there is also a locker (that’s it above the fridge) to secure all your belongings so you can enjoy your day worry-free!
Their frozen margaritas were quite good, and you can upgrade your drink package for $40 a day to include all the GOOOD stuff. Never fear, though, basic beers and wines were included in the base rate.
Animal Meet & Greet
This was an upgrade option and our animal was an armadillo and he was an ACTIVE little fellow!
This is what I was looking forward to the most. I loved dolphins as a kid and have always wanted to meet one. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Dolphins are so sweet and adorable and intelligent…
Some things to know going in to it: you will be asked to remove all jewelry, which for me meant one lip piercing and 8 total ear piercings. This is actually for both your safety and the dophins’ because they love shiny things and WILL try to steal your jewelry. And was totally worth it for me to meet my dolphins :) They seriously made my heart so happy.
I think it is very important to state that at Discovery Cove, if any the animals don’t feel like interacting with the guests or playing at any point, they are giving the autonomy to keep to themselves and are not forced to perform.
Do make sure that you book your time slot–it’s included but you have to book in advance. And, yes, the wetsuit is required for this activity.
If you have little ones, they won’t be able to do it, as there is a minimum height requirement. The kind trainers and employees did, however, work their magic to allow us to take a photo of all five of us together with one of the dolphins after our official “swim.”
This was so incredibly enjoyable. There were rays and schools of fish and you just snorkel alongside them. There are friendly, knowledgable staff throughout the pool both protecting the animals and you and answering whatever questions you may have about the animals, too.
Check out the video for a heckuva lot more footage of this!
Unlimited food & drinks. Lots of good options. Do keep in mind, though, that there are set dining times for breakfast and lunch for the meal service.
Admiring the sunset view from our cabana.
There’s actually a ton more to do, and we didn’t get to swim with the Sea Otters or do the Lazy River (my kiddo and I both are suckers for a good lazy river), so, obviously, we have to go back :D
